    Hill fort near Saswad about 40 km south east of Pune, birthplace of Sambhaji in 1657 and site of the 1665 Treaty of Purandar.

  • Rajgad Fort

    Shivaji's first capital for about 26 years, a large hill fort about 60 km south west of Pune, part of a UNESCO World Heritage site since 2025.

  • Shivneri Fort

    Birthplace of Shivaji in 1630, a hill fort above Junnar about 95 km north of Pune, part of a UNESCO World Heritage site since 2025.

  • Torna Fort

    The highest fort in Pune district at about 1,400 m, the first fort Shivaji captured around 1646, climbed from Velhe village.

  • Vishrambaug Wada

    Early 19th century mansion of Bajirao II, the last Peshwa, known for its carved wooden facade and balcony.

  • Zero Stone

    Small survey marker near the GPO in the Camp area, from which road distances to and from Pune were measured in the British period.

  • Empress Botanical Garden

    Old botanical garden near the Race Course, run by the Agri Horticultural Society of Western India, with large trees and an annual flower show.

  • Pashan Lake

    Lake in west Pune known for birdwatching, with resident and winter migrant water birds best seen early in the morning.

  • Rajiv Gandhi Zoological Park (Katraj Zoo)

    Pune's municipal zoo at Katraj, with tigers, leopards, elephants, deer and a large snake park around Katraj Lake; closed on Wednesdays.

    Forested hill in west Pune and the highest point in the city, with walking trails, a Vetal temple and a forest department viewing deck.

  • Ohel David Synagogue (Lal Deval)

    Red brick Gothic synagogue in Camp, built in 1867 with funds from David Sassoon and known locally as Lal Deval, the red temple.

  • St Mary's Church

    Pune's oldest Anglican church, consecrated in 1825 in the Cantonment, with memorial tablets to British soldiers and families.

  • Bund Garden (Mahatma Gandhi Udyan)

    Riverside garden by the Fitzgerald Bridge on the Mula Mutha, laid out around a 19th century bund built by Sir Jamsetjee Jejeebhoy.

  • Khadakwasla Dam

    Dam on the Mutha River about 20 km south west of Pune whose reservoir supplies the city, a popular evening stop on the way to Sinhagad.

  • Mulshi Lake

    Large reservoir on the Mula River about 45 km west of Pune, surrounded by forested hills that turn green in the monsoon.

  • Osho Teerth Park

    Free public garden in Koregaon Park with bamboo groves, a stream and shaded paths, open in the morning and late afternoon.

  • Pu La Deshpande Udyan (Pune Okayama Friendship Garden)

    Japanese style garden on Sinhagad Road inspired by Okayama's Korakuen, with lawns, streams and ponds, plus the Kalagram crafts section.

  • Tamhini Ghat

    Mountain pass on the road from Mulshi down to the Konkan, known for monsoon waterfalls and misty views.

    Old city market lanes around a Peshwa era Ram temple, packed with stalls selling jewellery, kitchenware, puja items and fabrics.

  • Alandi (Sant Dnyaneshwar Samadhi)

    Pilgrim town on the Indrayani River where the saint poet Dnyaneshwar took samadhi in 1296; his Palkhi to Pandharpur starts here.

  • Bhuleshwar Temple

    Hilltop Shiva temple near Yawat, about 50 km east of Pune, known for its finely carved stone friezes.

    Ashtavinayak temple of Chintamani Ganesh at Theur, about 25 km east of Pune near the Mula Mutha and Bhima confluence.

  • Dehu (Sant Tukaram Temple)

    Home town of the 17th century saint poet Tukaram on the Indrayani River, with his temple, the Shila Mandir and the start of his Palkhi.

    Buddhist rock cut caves of the 1st to 3rd century above Junnar, one of which holds the Girijatmaj Ganesh, an Ashtavinayak temple.

    Large ISKCON temple of Sri Sri Radha Vrindavanchandra in Kondhwa, with daily kirtans, aartis and Govinda's vegetarian restaurant.

  • Kasba Ganpati

    Pune's gramadevata, the presiding Ganesh of the city, and the first of the five Manache Ganpati that lead the Ganeshotsav immersion procession.

  • Pataleshwar Caves, Pune

    8th century Rashtrakuta cave temple of Shiva cut from a single basalt outcrop, with a rare circular Nandi pavilion, on Jangali Maharaj Road.
