The Chintamani temple at Theur is one of the eight Ashtavinayak shrines and the closest of them to Pune, about 25 km east of the city in Haveli taluka. Its legend tells how Ganesh won back the wish fulfilling jewel, the chintamani, for the sage Kapila. The temple is linked with the Ganapatya saint Morya Gosavi, and the Peshwa Madhavrao I, a devotee, enlarged it in the 18th century; he died at Theur in 1772. Sankashti Chaturthi and Maghi Ganesh Jayanti are the busiest days.
