The Raja Dinkar Kelkar Museum holds the personal collection of Dr Dinkar G. Kelkar (1896 to 1990), who spent decades buying objects of daily life and art from across India and named the museum after his only son, Raja, who died young. The collection runs to about 22,000 objects, of which around 2,500 are on display at any time across the three storey building in Shukrawar Peth. Highlights include oil lamps, nutcrackers, carved wooden doors and windows, textiles, ivory and metal work, and one of the finest collections of Indian musical instruments. The Mastani Mahal gallery reassembles a painted room associated with Mastani, Bajirao I's consort. Allow at least two hours.
