Parvati Hill rises to about 640 m (2,100 feet) in south Pune, and a long flight of stone steps leads to the temple complex on top. Peshwa Balaji Bajirao, also called Nanasaheb, bought the hill and built the temples; the main Devdeveshwar temple of Shiva and Parvati, built in black stone, was completed in 1749. Smaller temples are dedicated to Vishnu, Vitthal and Rukmini, and Kartikeya, and a small museum on the hill displays Peshwa era objects. The top gives one of the best views over the city, and the climb is popular with early morning walkers.
