Khadakwasla Dam

Khadakwasla Dam

Dam on the Mutha River about 20 km south west of Pune whose reservoir supplies the city, a popular evening stop on the way to Sinhagad.

Khadakwasla Dam holds back the Mutha River about 20 km from the centre of Pune, and its reservoir is the city's main source of drinking water. The original masonry dam gave way in July 1961 when the Panshet Dam upstream burst, and the flood swept through much of the old city; it was rebuilt afterwards. The road along the reservoir is a popular evening drive, with corn and tea stalls and views of the hills, and it lies on the way to Sinhagad. The National Defence Academy is nearby. Swimming in the reservoir is not allowed.
