The Ashtavinayak are eight Ganesh temples in western Maharashtra, each with a self formed idol and its own legend. They are Mayureshwar at Morgaon, Siddhivinayak at Siddhatek, Ballaleshwar at Pali, Varadvinayak at Mahad near Khopoli, Chintamani at Theur, Girijatmaj at Lenyadri, Vighnahar at Ozar and Mahaganapati at Ranjangaon. Five are in Pune district, Pali and Mahad are in Raigad district, and Siddhatek is just across the Bhima in Ahilyanagar district. Pilgrims traditionally start and end at Morgaon, but many people from Pune simply visit the nearer temples: Theur is about 25 km away, Ranjangaon about 50 km, and Ozar and Lenyadri near Junnar can be combined with Shivneri. Covering all eight by road usually takes two or three days.
