Kasba Ganpati, in the old Kasba Peth quarter, is the gramadevata or presiding deity of Pune. Local tradition links the shrine to Jijabai, who is said to have had it built when she and the young Shivaji settled at Lal Mahal in the 1630s. During Ganeshotsav it is the first of the five Manache Ganpati, the honoured mandals of the old city, and its palanquin leads the immersion procession on Anant Chaturdashi. The temple is small and busy with local devotees every day, and Lal Mahal and Shaniwar Wada are a few minutes' walk away.
