Rajgad, earlier known as Murumbdev, was Shivaji's capital for about 26 years before he moved it to Raigad, and he spent more time here than at any other fort. It stands about 60 km south west of Pune at roughly 1,376 m, and its three spurs, Padmavati Machi, Suvela Machi and Sanjivani Machi, are ringed by walls and bastions around the Bale Killa citadel on the summit. Ruins of palaces, water tanks and gateways are spread across the top, and many trekkers stay overnight to see sunrise over Torna. In 2025 Rajgad was inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List as part of the Maratha Military Landscapes of India.

- How to Reach: About 60 km south west of Pune via Nasrapur. Most treks start from Gunjavane or Pali Darwaza village; the climb takes about 3 to 4 hours. Trails are slippery in the monsoon.
