Empress Botanical Garden lies next to the Race Course in the Pune Cantonment and is named after Queen Victoria, Empress of India. It is run by the Agri Horticultural Society of Western India, and its lawns are shaded by old trees, including many rare Indian and exotic species. There is a lotus pond, a plant nursery that sells to visitors, and a children's play area. The society's flower show, held here every year, is one of the city's best known garden events.
