Dehu, on the banks of the Indrayani River north west of Pune, was the home of Sant Tukaram, the 17th century Varkari saint whose abhangas are still sung across Maharashtra. The main temple stands at the heart of the village, and the Shila Mandir, opened in 2022, enshrines the rock on which Tukaram is said to have sat for 13 days after his manuscripts were thrown into the river. Tukaram's palkhi leaves Dehu each year in June or July on the walk to Pandharpur for Ashadhi Ekadashi, a day before Dnyaneshwar's palkhi leaves Alandi. Weekends and Ekadashi days are busy.
