About Thimphu

Overview

Thimphu is the capital of Bhutan, spread along the Wang Chhu valley about an hour's drive from Paro airport. Tashichho Dzong sits by the river, the giant Buddha Dordenma statue looks over the valley from a ridge, and locals circle the National Memorial Chorten through the day. Weekends bring the Centenary Farmers Market to life, and Dochula Pass is on the road east toward Punakha.
