Tashichho Dzong is the large fortress on the west bank of the Wang Chhu at the northern end of Thimphu. It houses the throne room and offices of the King and government ministries, and serves as the summer residence of the central monk body. Visitors see the main courtyards and temple areas, with whitewashed walls, gold roofs and painted woodwork all around. The grand dzong forms the backdrop for the Thimphu Tshechu festival each autumn. Wear long sleeves and formal, modest clothing.
