Jigme Dorji National Park, named after the late Jigme Dorji Wangchuck, is the second largest national park in Bhutan, stretching across the north west of the country from the high Himalaya down to temperate forest. It protects snow leopards, takin, blue sheep, red pandas and Himalayan black bears, as well as the headwaters of major rivers, and includes the hot springs of Gasa and remote high villages such as Laya.
The park is seen mostly on Bhutan's classic treks, such as the Jomolhari and Laya routes. Visits to Bhutan are arranged through licensed tour operators, who handle permits.
- How to Reach: Trailheads are reached by road from Thimphu, Paro and Punakha; Paro has Bhutan's international airport.
