The wooden gateway of the Motithang Takin Preserve in Thimphu.
The Motithang Takin Preserve is a fenced patch of pine forest on the hillside above Thimphu, home to the takin, Bhutan's national animal. Takin look like a cross between a goat and a cow, and local legend links them to the saint Drukpa Kunley. A path runs along the fence, and the animals are easiest to spot at feeding time. A few deer share the enclosure. Do not feed the animals.
