The Buddha Dordenma statue on its ridge above the Thimphu valley.
Buddha Dordenma is a huge gilded bronze statue of a seated Shakyamuni Buddha on the Kuensel Phodrang ridge, looking down over the Thimphu valley. Inside the base is a shrine hall lined with thousands of smaller Buddha figures. The open terrace around the statue is one of the best places to see the whole city spread along the river. Dress modestly and remove shoes before entering the shrine hall.
