Overview

Thalassery (also called Tellicherry) is a coastal town in Kannur district on North Kerala's Malabar coast. The laterite Thalassery Fort still marks the old British trading settlement above the Arabian Sea, and the town is known for cricket and circus history as much as for spice-port roots. Travelers come for short fort walks, Malabar food, and easy day trips to Muzhappilangad Drive-in Beach and Dharmadam Island a few kilometres north. Kozhikode is about 70 km south, so Thalassery also works as a stop on the Kannur to Kozhikode coastal road.

Nearest airport is Kannur International Airport, roughly 25 km away by road. Thalassery railway station sits on the Mangaluru-Shoranur coastal line with frequent trains. Kozhikode is about 70 km south by NH66; Kannur town is about 20 to 22 km north.
