About Abu Dhabi

Overview

Abu Dhabi is the capital of the United Arab Emirates and the largest of the seven emirates. The city sits on islands along the Gulf, with the Corniche waterfront, Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque, Yas Island theme parks and Saadiyat Island museums among the main draws. Direct flights from major Indian cities usually take about three and a half to four hours. The cooler months from November to March suit outdoor walks and desert trips; summers are very hot. Taxis and app cabs are the usual way around the city, with buses and a free Visit Abu Dhabi shuttle for some hotel and attraction guests.

How to Reach Abu Dhabi

Intercity connectivity and travel options

Most international flights arrive at Zayed International Airport (AUH), formerly Abu Dhabi International Airport, with Etihad as the main airline. Direct flights from Indian cities such as Delhi, Mumbai, Bengaluru, Hyderabad, Chennai and Kochi commonly take about 3.5 to 4 hours on Etihad, Air India, IndiGo, Air Arabia and others. Abu Dhabi runs 1 hour 30 minutes behind India time. Most Indian passport holders need a UAE visit visa arranged before travel; some Indians with a valid US, UK or EU residence visa or green card may qualify for visa on arrival. Rules change often, so confirm with your airline or UAE immigration before you fly.
