About Cherrapunji

Cherrapunji, also known by its original name Sohra, is a small town in the East Khasi Hills of Meghalaya, famous for holding some of the world's highest recorded rainfall figures. It sits atop the Shillong plateau at around 1,260 metres, with the plains of Bangladesh visible just 25 km to the south. Nohkalikai Falls, one of India's tallest waterfalls, and Mawsmai Cave are the most visited sites. The double-decker living root bridge near Nongriat village is one of Northeast India's most iconic natural wonders. Despite its reputation as the wettest place on earth, winters are dry and sunny. Cherrapunji is 54 km from Shillong and is commonly combined with it on Meghalaya itineraries.
