Aspinwall House

A 19th-century trading house in Fort Kochi and primary venue of the Kochi-Muziris Biennale, Asia's largest contemporary art event.

Aspinwall House in Fort Kochi is a landmark heritage building dating to the 1860s, once the headquarters of the Aspinwall & Co. trading firm which dealt in coconut oil, coir, and spices. The sprawling waterfront compound with its distinctive colonial architecture and warehouses became world-famous as a primary venue of the Kochi-Muziris Biennale, Asia's largest contemporary art event. During the Biennale held every two years, the building and its grounds are transformed into immersive exhibition spaces. Even outside the Biennale, the building's heritage and setting along the Arabian Sea make it a significant cultural landmark.
