Overview

Bomdila is the district headquarters of West Kameng and the main overnight stop on the road from Assam toward Dirang and Tawang. At about 2,400 metres, the town spreads across pine ridges with apple orchards, Monpa craft shops, and the large Gentse Gaden Rabgye Ling monastery overlooking the valley. Travelers use Bomdila for a quieter night before or after the high passes, with cooler weather than the plains and easy walks around Upper and Lower Gompa. Inner Line Permits are required for non-residents of Arunachal Pradesh.
