Teej Procession, Jaipur
Teej Mata is carried in procession from City Palace through the walled city on 4 and 5 August 2027, Jaipur's main monsoon festival.
Teej, held in the month of Shravan during the monsoon, celebrates the union of the goddess Parvati with Shiva. Women dress in green and red, apply mehndi, fast and pray for their families, and swing on decorated jhulas while singing Teej songs. In Jaipur, the image of Teej Mata is carried in a procession from the Zenana Deodhi of City Palace through Tripolia Bazaar and the walled city, with folk musicians, dancers and decorated camels and horses, and crowds line the route and the rooftops. Ghewar, the honeycomb sweet, fills the old city's sweet shops in the weeks around the festival.
