City Palace stands at the centre of Jaipur's walled city and was begun by Maharaja Sawai Jai Singh II soon after he founded Jaipur in 1727. A visit leads through a series of courtyards: Mubarak Mahal, a reception palace from the late 19th century that now holds part of the museum; the Diwan-i-Khas, where two huge silver water urns are on display; and Pritam Niwas Chowk, the inner courtyard known for its four painted gateways, each linked to a season. The seven storey Chandra Mahal is still the home of the royal family, and some of its rooms can be seen only on the separate Royal Tour. The galleries, run as the Maharaja Sawai Man Singh II Museum, show royal costumes, arms, textiles and miniature paintings; the Textile Gallery in Mubarak Mahal is closed for restoration from 27 March 2026. Jantar Mantar is next door and Hawa Mahal is a short walk away. The nearest metro station is Badi Chaupar on the Pink Line.
