Bardan Monastery

A hilltop Drukpa Kagyu monastery on the road to Phugtal, known for dramatic canyon views.

Bardan Monastery stands on a hillock along the road toward Phugtal and Reru, offering views over deep canyons and gorges cut by the Zanskar River. It belongs to the Drukpa Kagyu order, the same lineage as Sani and Zongkhul. The monastery is often visited as a stop on the way to or from the Phugtal trek, and its setting is considered one of the more dramatic photography points in the valley, especially around midday light.
