Saptarishi Kund is a high altitude glacial lake sitting at about 4421 metres, fed by the Champasar Glacier and widely regarded as the true original source of the Yamuna river. Ringed by frozen peaks and rocky debris, the lake is also home to the rare Brahma Kamal flower, considered sacred in Hindu tradition. It is reached only by a strenuous multi day trek from Yamunotri and is believed to be the spot where the seven great sages once meditated.
