Bargabhima Temple

Bargabhima Temple

Old Kali temple in Tamluk, revered as a Shakti Peetha and the town's main place of worship.

The Bargabhima Temple is Tamluk's best known shrine, dedicated to the goddess Bhima, a form of Kali. Many devotees count it among the Shakti Peethas. The temple is built in the Bengal deul style with a tall curved tower, and local tradition links its origins to the town's days as the port of Tamralipta. It is an active temple with daily worship, and it is busiest in the mornings, on Tuesdays and Saturdays, and during Kali Puja and Durga Puja. Remove footwear before entering and follow the priests' instructions on photography inside.
