Kere Anjaneya Temple

A Hanuman temple by a lakeside in Sringeri town believed to be one of four guardian temples established by Adi Shankaracharya at the cardinal directions of the town.

Kere Anjaneya Temple stands on the western side of Sringeri town beside a picturesque lake, and is considered one of four Anjaneya shrines placed by Adi Shankaracharya at the four cardinal directions around the settlement as protective guardians. The main idol of Lord Hanuman stands in the varada mudra, the right hand raised in blessing, holding a lotus in the left. A smaller shrine to Lord Shiva and Lord Ganesha also stands within the compound. The lakeside setting adds a calm, reflective dimension that contrasts with the busier temple complex across town. The festival of Deepotsavam on Kartika Krishnapaksha Saturday is the temple's major annual celebration.
