Janardana Temple

A compact 14th-century Vijayanagara Vishnu temple within the Peetham complex notable for its ancient Sudarshana Chakra and guardian statues of Garuda and Anjaneya.

Janardana Temple is a small but significant Vaishnava shrine located to the left of the Vidyashankara Temple within the Sharada Peetham complex. Established in the 14th century by Jnanaghanacharya during the Vijayanagara period, the temple is dedicated to Lord Vishnu as Janardana. Flanking the entrance are striking images of Garuda and Anjaneya, and the sanctum houses an ancient Sudarshana Chakra of considerable veneration. Despite its modest size, the quality of the sculptural work reflects the high standard of Vijayanagara craftsmanship. It is rarely crowded and offers one of the quietest darshans within the temple campus.
