Shalimar Bagh

Mughal emperor Jahangir's grand terraced garden with chinar trees and fountains.

Shalimar Bagh is the largest Mughal garden in Kashmir, commissioned by Emperor Jahangir for his wife Nur Jahan in the early 17th century. The garden unfolds across four terraces of lawns, marble pavilions, cascading water channels and rows of majestic chinar trees whose canopies blaze orange and gold in autumn. Geometric flower beds, stone fountains and views of the Pir Panjal range make it one of the most photogenic gardens in the subcontinent.
