Pathar Masjid, the Stone Mosque, stands on the north bank of the Jhelum River in old Srinagar and was commissioned by Empress Nur Jahan in 1623. Constructed entirely of stone in contrast to the predominantly wooden mosques of Kashmir, the three-aisled structure demonstrates the Persian influence brought by the Mughal court. It has not been used for congregational prayer since the 17th century but remains a well-preserved architectural monument along the old city's riverside.
