Kheer Bhawani Temple in Tulmulla village, around 25 km from Srinagar, is the most revered Hindu pilgrimage site in the Kashmir Valley after Amarnath. The temple is built around a sacred spring dedicated to Goddess Ragnya Devi, also called Maharagya or Kheer Bhawani, who is worshipped as the kuldevi by Kashmiri Pandits. The spring's colour is said to change with divine moods, and the ritual offering of kheer, a rice-milk pudding, gives the goddess her popular name. The annual Jesth Ashtami mela draws tens of thousands of pilgrims.
