Hari Parbat Fort

18th-century hilltop fort encircling Srinagar's sacred Sharika Hill.

Hari Parbat Fort crowns the hill considered sacred by Kashmiri Pandits as the abode of Goddess Sharika. The present fort walls were built under the Durrani Empire's governor Atta Mohammed Khan in 1808, though Mughal emperor Akbar began outer fortifications here in 1590. The complex encompasses the Sharika Devi Temple, the Makhdoom Sahib Sufi shrine, a Mughal-era mosque and Gurdwara Chatti Padshahi, making it a rare multi-faith sacred hill.
