Kuno National Park covers about 749 sq km of dry forest and grassland around the Kuno River in Sheopur and Morena districts of Madhya Pradesh. It began as a wildlife sanctuary in 1981, became a national park in 2018, and is the first site of Project Cheetah, India's programme to bring back cheetahs, with animals released from Africa since 2022. Leopards, sloth bears, wolves, striped hyenas, chinkara and nilgai also live here, and the ruined Palpur fort stands in the core area.
Safaris run in the morning and evening from three gates, Tiktoli, Ahera and Peepalbawadi, and are booked on the Madhya Pradesh Forest Department portal, forest.mponline.gov.in. The park is closed to tourists from 1 July to 30 September. Cheetah sightings are never guaranteed.
- How to Reach: Gwalior has the nearest airport. Gwalior, Sawai Madhopur, Kota, Jaipur and Jhansi are the nearest main line railway stations, with onward travel by road via Sheopur.
