Maitreya Buddha Statue Diskit

A 106 foot Maitreya Buddha statue below Diskit Monastery, facing the Shyok river and unveiled by the Dalai Lama.

The Maitreya Buddha Statue stands on a ridge just below Diskit Monastery, its 106 foot frame visible from the Khalsar road long before travelers reach town. Inaugurated by His Holiness the Dalai Lama in 2010, it represents the Future Buddha and faces outward across the valley. Though closely linked to the monastery above, the statue has its own separate ticketed viewing platform and draws visitors independently of the gompa visit.
