Diskit Monastery dates to the 14th century and belongs to the Gelugpa sect, its whitewashed walls climbing a rocky hill above Diskit town. Inside the prayer hall sits an image of Cho Rinpoche, the Crowned Buddha, alongside older Tibetan style murals. Around 300 steps lead to the summit, rewarding visitors with a panoramic sweep of the Shyok river and the valley below, best timed with the morning prayers around 6:30 am.
