About Namche Bazaar

Overview

Namche Bazaar is the main Sherpa town of the Khumbu region of Nepal, set at about 3,440 m inside Sagarmatha National Park. The park covers 1,148 sq km of the Everest region, from the Dudh Kosi valley to the summit of Everest, and was listed by UNESCO as a World Heritage Site in 1979. Snow leopards, Himalayan tahr, musk deer and Impeyan pheasants live here. Most trekkers spend a night or two in Namche to acclimatise on the trek towards Everest and Gokyo.
