Rajmachi Fort actually comprises two linked strongholds, Shrivardhan and Manaranjan, set within a rugged stretch of the Sahyadris midway between Lonavala and Khandala. Captured by Chhatrapati Shivaji in the seventeenth century and later held by the British, the fort once guarded the strategic Bor Ghat trade route. The trek to the top passes through forested trails and small villages, rewarding visitors with wide views of the valley and surrounding waterfalls. Massive stone ramparts and old water tanks still trace the outline of the fort's original defenses, appealing to both trekkers and history enthusiasts.
