Airavatesvara Temple

Airavatesvara Temple at Darasuram, located 5 to 8 km from Kumbakonam town, is a UNESCO World Heritage Site designated as one of the Great Living Chola Temples. Built by Raja Raja Chola II in the 12th century, it showcases magnificent stone architecture. The temple features a distinctive chariot-shaped mandapam with elaborately carved singing steps that produce melodious sounds. Multiple shrines dedicated to Vedic deities and intricate wall carvings depicting mythological tales exemplify Chola excellence.
