The City Palace was the seat of the Jadon Rajput rulers of Karauli for several centuries. It was first built in the 14th century and was largely rebuilt and extended in the 18th century under Raja Gopal Singh. The palace mixes Rajput and Mughal styles, with red and white sandstone, carved jharokhas, lattice screens and courtyards. Inside, the rooms of Raja Gopal Singh have wall paintings and mirror work, and the upper terraces look out over the walled town. The Madan Mohan Ji temple is inside the palace complex.
