Overview

Junagadh is an ancient city in Gujarat, set at the foothills of Girnar Hill. Its name means old fort, and the town lives up to it with the Mauryan-era Uparkot Fort, the 2,300 year old Ashoka Rock Edicts, and the striking Indo-Gothic Mahabat Maqbara. Girnar Hill itself is a major pilgrimage site for both Hindus and Jains. The annual Bhavnath Fair, also called the Mini Kumbh, and the Girnar Parikrama draw large crowds of devotees every year.
