Sambhar Lake

India's largest inland saltwater lake near Jaipur, a Ramsar wetland site and a spectacular destination for flamingo and migratory bird watching.

Sambhar Lake, located about 80 km from Jaipur, is India’s largest inland saltwater lake and a striking natural wonder of Rajasthan.

Formed from the waters of five rivers - Mendha, Rupangarh, Khandela, Kharian, and Samod, the lake has been a major source of salt production since ancient times. Its vast white salt flats create a surreal landscape, especially during sunrise and sunset.

Sambhar is also a paradise for birdwatchers, as thousands of migratory birds, including flamingos, pelicans, and storks, visit the lake in winter. Rich in history, folklore, and ecology, Sambhar Lake beautifully blends natural beauty with cultural significance, making it a unique offbeat destination near Jaipur.
