Jawahar Kala Kendra

Jawahar Kala Kendra

State arts centre designed by Charles Correa on a nine square plan, with galleries, theatres, a cafe and a busy events calendar.

Jawahar Kala Kendra is the Rajasthan government's centre for the arts, on JLN Marg in the south of the city. The architect Charles Correa designed it around a nine square plan inspired by the navagraha, the nine planets, echoing the grid on which Jaipur itself was laid out, with each square given to a different planet and art form. It has art galleries, an open air amphitheatre, indoor theatres and a library, along with a cafe that is a popular meeting place. Exhibitions, theatre, music and craft events run through the year, so check the programme before you go. General entry is free, while some performances are ticketed.
