Isarlat, also called Sargasuli, the tower that pierces heaven, rises above the shops of Tripolia Bazaar in the walled city. Sawai Ishwari Singh built it in 1749 to mark his victory over his half brother Madho Singh and his allies at the Battle of Rajmahal. The tower stands about 140 feet tall over seven octagonal levels, and a narrow spiral staircase leads to the top, with views over City Palace, Jantar Mantar, Hawa Mahal and Nahargarh on the ridge. The entrance is from Aatish Market, behind the Tripolia Bazaar shopfronts. The climb is steep and the top is small, so it is best avoided by anyone uneasy with heights.
