Govind Dev Ji Temple stands in the Jai Niwas garden on the north side of the City Palace complex, in the walled city. The image of Krishna as Govind Dev was brought from Vrindavan to Jaipur in the 18th century under Maharaja Sawai Jai Singh II, and the temple was placed in line with the palace so that the ruler could see the deity from the Chandra Mahal. Devotees believe the image was made by Vajranabh, Krishna's great grandson. Darshan takes place in seven short sessions, or jhankis, through the day, from the Mangla aarti before dawn to the Shayan aarti at night, and the hall fills quickly at each one. Janmashtami, Holi and Annakut are the busiest days. Entry is free.
