Albert Hall Museum is the oldest museum in Rajasthan, housed in an Indo-Saracenic building designed by Samuel Swinton Jacob in Ram Niwas Garden, just south of the walled city. The foundation stone was laid in 1876 during a visit by the Prince of Wales, and the museum opened in 1887. Its galleries cover miniature paintings, carpets, metalware, pottery, arms and armour, coins and costumes, and its best known exhibit is an Egyptian mummy from the Ptolemaic period. The building is floodlit at night, and the plaza in front fills with families in the evening. Masala Chowk food court is next door.
