Ganga Temple, Mukhba (Mukhimath)

Winter home of Goddess Ganga in Mukhba village, where she is worshipped after the Gangotri temple closes.

Mukhba, also called Mukhimath, is the village of the Gangotri temple priests, across the Bhagirathi from Harsil. When the Gangotri temple closes for winter on Annakoot, Ganga's Utsav Doli is carried down to Mukhba and installed in the Ganga temple here, where she is worshipped until the Gangotri doors reopen on Akshaya Tritiya. The village is reachable by road through the winter, so it is the place for winter darshan of Ganga.
