The Vishwanath Temple is the main shrine of Guptkashi, dedicated to Shiva as Vishwanath, like the temple at Varanasi. Legend says Shiva hid here from the Pandavas before appearing at Kedarnath, which gives the town its name. In front of the temple is Manikarnika Kund, where two springs said to represent the Ganga and Yamuna bathe a Shiva linga, and the Ardhanarishwar shrine stands beside the main temple. The Kedarnath doli halts here on its way to Ukhimath after the temple closes.
