About Guptkashi

Uttarakhand

Overview

Guptkashi is a town in the Mandakini valley of Rudraprayag district, at about 1,319 m, and one of the main overnight stops on the road to Kedarnath. It is known for the ancient Vishwanath Temple, the Ardhanarishwar shrine and Manikarnika Kund, where two springs said to represent the Ganga and Yamuna bathe a Shiva linga. Helicopters to Kedarnath fly from Guptkashi and from the nearby pads at Phata and Sersi, and the Kedarnath doli halts here on its way to Ukhimath after the temple closes.
