Rajagopuram of the Soundararaja Perumal Temple at Thadikombu
This Vishnu temple in Thadikombu village, on the Dindigul to Karur road, is believed to date from the reign of the Vijayanagara king Achyuta Deva Raya in the 16th century. The outer halls and life size sculptures were added under Thirumalai Nayak of Madurai in 1629. Vishnu is worshipped as Soundararaja Perumal and Lakshmi as Soundaravalli. The temple has a five tier rajagopuram, musical pillars in the Kalyana Mandapam, and a separate shrine for Manmatha and Rathi, the deities of love, which is rare in Tamil Nadu. Devotees treat it as linked to the Kallazhagar temple near Madurai, and its main festival falls in the Tamil month of Chithirai (April to May).
