Makku, also called Makkumath or Mukku, is a Garhwal village on the forested slopes below Chopta. When Tungnath closes for winter, the deity is brought here, so the village shrine is the winter place of worship. Birders stay in or take a short drive to Makku for Himalayan monal and other pheasants along the Mandal and Makku trails. It is quieter than the meadow camps above.
