Chandrashila, or Moon Rock, is a steep 1.5 km climb beyond Tungnath to about 4,000 metres. Sunrise from the top is the classic Chopta outing, with Nanda Devi, Trishul, Chaukhamba, and the Kedarnath group in one sweep. Start the Tungnath walk from Chopta well before dawn if you want the summit for first light. The last stretch is rocky and slower than the temple path, so allow extra time for the descent.
